About Us

Providing Joy for Children in Need

Who We Are

The ToyMakers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to brightening the lives of sick and needy children through the creation of simple wooden toys. As an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) organization, we operate entirely with volunteers. Our commitment is clear: 100% of all donations go directly to the materials and costs associated with crafting our toys. We take pride in ensuring that every toy is safe, made without nails, screws, or staples, and painted with child-safe materials. Since our founding in 1982, we have donated over 500,000 toys, primarily in the Tampa Bay area and to children in need across the globe through our missionary and military partnerships.

Our Beginnings

The ToyMakers was born in 1982 when Jim McCullagh learned that his grandchild had no toys to play with during their stay at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. Recognizing a need, Jim partnered with his childhood friend Bruce Pahl, and together with their wives, they began crafting colorful wooden toys. Initially gave toys to All Children's Hospital and local Ronald McDonald Houses, word of our efforts spread rapidly. Today, we are proud to have donated over 500,000 toys, including specialized designs for children with Muscular Dystrophy. Our mission is to respond to all calls for support for children in physical or emotional distress.

Our Volunteers

Our success is thanks to the countless individuals and organizations who support us through donations of money and materials. Each year, we use approximately 80,000 wheels, thousands of dowels, and gallons of safe paints to create our toys. The generosity of our supporters allows us to continue this vital work, and we are immensely grateful for their contributions.

Our Mission and Goals

Our mission is to provide brightly painted, simple wooden toys to children facing physical or emotional challenges. We aim to expand our reach by establishing chapters of The ToyMakers across the United States, collaborating with (RMHC) Ronald McDonald Houses and other agencies that care for children in need.

Our Recipients

Every year, The ToyMakers produce 20,000 toys, delivering about 5,000 toys every three months to more than 27 agencies in the Tampa Bay area—including Pasco, Hernando, Pinellas, and Hillsborough counties. We are dedicated to ensuring that these toys bring joy to children who need it most.
